Description

If Rome has the GNAM (National Gallery of Modern Art), Bologna the MAMBO (Museum of Modern Art Bologna) and Naples has the MADRE (DonnaREgina Contemporary Art Museum), in Varese they thought it was a good idea to inaugurate the Mu.CO (Contemporary Art Museum). Here, according to critics, the worst works of the greatest contemporary artists are exhibited. Among others: a horrible Warhol, a dreadful Dalí, two dramatic Magritte and an unwatchable Duchamp. Leonardo has been working for the Mu.Co for three years. It was compulsory hiring for disabled people: Leonardo lost two fingers in an accident when he was a child, and with his fingers his dreams went away as well. The only great certainty he now has is called “Andrea”, a very practicing catholic girl, who literally respects the ten commandments: she does not swear, and, above all, she does not have sex. She definitely does not have sex with him, however, because Leonardo, with the aim of surprising her with his wedding proposal, finds her in bed with another man. From that very moment on, his life breaks apart. The blackest desperation, however, is followed by vengeance. Leonardo decides to revenge against Andrea and her precious commandments. He breaks them all, systematically, one after the other. With a corrosive irony and a story marked by hilarious scenes, Muzzopappa returns to bestow himself in an unusual black comedy, whose main character is a tender and intriguing man in love.

Author

Francesco Muzzopappa (Bari, 1976) is amongst the best known and most appreciated Italian copywriters. “An uncomfortable position” (Fazi, 2013), his debut novel, will soon be on the Italian movie screens. His second novel, “Family affairs” (Fazi, 2014), has strengthened both his public success and critical acclaim. His new novel will be published next June in Italy (Fazi) and in 2018 in France.
His “Brief Fairytales Which So Badly End” (drawn by Sio, one the most popular Italian cartoonists) have, by now, racked up on YouTube over 15 millions “views”.
