Author
Peter Bagin (born 1938), painter, graphic artist, illustrator, and master of children's books. Born in Ufa, he graduated from the Leningrad School of Graphic Arts in 1958 and in 1968 from the Art Department of the Soviet State Film Academy (in animation). He studied under the masters of Russian fairy tale illustrator Pimenov and Shachanov. In 1974 he became a member of the Association of Peter Bartin (Graphic) Artists. Peter has cooperation with the magazine «Мурзилка» for more than 40 years.
Peter Bagin is very fond of nature and perceives animals in nature. In the process of creating illustrations for fairy tale plots, he created images of animals and birds with complete precision. The portrait of each animal was born out of the author's long, detailed research work. Peter Bagin's footprints are all over northern Russia, Altai, Urals, and even Wrangel Island. Everywhere he made sketches, observed studies, and memorized them. It is all this work that opens up the possibility for his perfect creation of nature, giving each animal and bird its unique qualities. He has created illustrations for more than 100 books, as well as illustrations for Pushkin's stories, Russian folk tales, and poems by Chutchev, Yesenin, and others.
In 1980 the Tretyakov Gallery (Russian Art Museum) acquired the illustrations in Peter Bagin's book "A Walk in the Arctic Circle", in which Peter Bagin is both the author and the painter. His meticulous observation of nature, the precise expressiveness of his brush and his studies of the far north are perfectly displayed in this work! In 2001 Peter Bagin was awarded the Silver Medal of the Russian Academy of Arts for his works on "Russian Fairy Tales" and for the Irish fairy tale "Amazing Dreams"! In 2004 won the IBBY International Children's Book Alliance Certificate of Honor! He is also the author of "The Forest: Animal Life throughout the Year" (which won the Russian Best Children's Book Award), and the new book "Traces. The life of animals and birds in pictures and short stories" in 2022!
