★Welcome to the Math Story Club is a gift that Jordan Ellenberg gives to teenagers. Based on middle school mathematics curriculum, from the Pythagorean Theorem to properties of circle, this book discards the dull formulas, and uses the story form that children love to see and hear of mathematics”, showing “the power of mathematics”. Through it, children will master the way to enjoy mathematicS!

Hello, everyone. Welcome to the math story club.
Every week, we will meet world-class mathematician Jordan Ellenberg to share math stories.
The themes include “How many holes do straws have?” “How does a plane find its way?” “How can a computer that only knows zero and one store so much information?” “Can we create a code that absolutely can’t be broken?”

After taking part in this club, I felt the fun of mathematics for the first time. Once I was a “mathematics quitter” (a person who gives up mathematics), but now I begin to love mathematics.

This book is based on mathematics knowledge in the textbook, especially for middle school students. You needn’t recite it, and there is no exercise. Pretty interesting!
We are recruiting club members. If you are one of these people, please join us!
People who agonize over whether to give up mathematics
People who can’t figure out why we learn mathematics and have a headache
People who can recite formulas fluently, but you can’t get answers right
We will give you a warm welcome, as long as you want to get close to mathematics.

“There are not many techniques, even though we’ve been working on this for 3,000 years. So whenever anyone comes up with an authentically new way to do things it’s a big deal, and Minhyong did that.” —Jordan Ellenberg, winner of the Euler Book Prize, on Minhyong Kim’s contribution to number theory
Minhyong Kim is Christopher Zeeman Professor of Algebra, Geometry, and Public Understanding of Mathematics at the University of Warwick. He received international recognition for his innovative use of topological techniques to solve an age-old problem in arithmetical algebraic geometry related to Fermat’s last theorem. He knows English Romantic poems by heart, finds mathematical beauty in Chopin’s sheet music, and enjoys having lively debates about biology, neuroscience, and physics. He was a researcher at M.I.T. and taught at Purdue University, University College London and University of Oxford. In a rare feat, his papers were published simultaneously in two major mathematical journals, namely Annals of Mathematics and Journal of the American Mathematical Society. He travels around the UK and South Korea, introducing the world of mathematics to a general audience through TV appearances and an online lecture series that has garnered 12,000 subscribers. He is the author of The Learning of Mathematics (Korean), Prime Fantasy (Korean), and Father’s Mathematical Journey (Korean) and the co-translator of Dechiffreurs: Voyage en mathematiques (Korean).
