Style Description by the illustrator

It is not easy to describe the creative path for each individual illustration; it is easier to define the creative path of an entire project.
The idea of a project comes from a single image that is created in my mind and from which I then develop the story; from a word; from a title, from which I then develop a concept. For example, for “Angry as a Lion”, the project was born from a first image: Fury dozing in Lion’s belly. This image gave rise to others which, in no particular order, gave life to the structure of the book, and which were then rearranged to express a concept that I was trying to clarify to myself: anger.
Each project often stems from a personal experience: in “Jealous as an Orangutan”, for example, I tried to describe my jealousy towards my memories and personal experiences that I greedily try to keep secret; in “Timid as a Bear” I tried to tell how I managed to live with my shyness; in “Angry as a Lion” I tell about the time I was so angry that I actually growled like a lion; in “Happy as a Chick”, I tried to describe the joy I often feel for the little things in everyday life; in “Disgusted as a Toad” I tried to tell about the importance of not considering ourselves perfect, which I have tried to do for years, and of accepting what is different from us.
In each project I try to maintain an illustrative style that is unique; I try to give each book a different identity from the others, so I try to vary each title in the use of coloring, textures used and atmospheres of the environments.
I believe that a book is like a song, a set of musical notes: each page has a rhythm. I create images composed of multiple sequences, close-ups, more intimate atmospheres, trying to compose, in my own way, a melody.
