Description

When prenatal diagnosis raises questions
Prenatal examinations during pregnancy can confront expectant parents with unexpected questions: Will our child be born disabled? What if it is not viable after birth or if it still dies in the womb?
While accompanying parents after prenatal diagnosis (PND), we noticed that the majority of the pregnancy was terminated. This also corresponds to social expectations. Only rarely is there a constructive discussion about alternatives: carrying out and living with a handicapped child, palliative childbirth, possibility for adoption approval: "carry on".
The subsequent complex decisions should always be made on the basis of appreciative and value-free support, sufficient time and comprehensive information. This book establishes this basis and informs parents-to-be, relatives, midwives, doctors and counseling centers in detail about all possible routes to PND. It is decidedly not an anti-abortion book, but a plea for complete clarification - which includes the termination.
In addition, pregnancy after PND usually runs differently than is known from classic advice. Ultimately, however, all pregnant women still have one thing in common: they are expecting a child. This book therefore also wants to be the suitable pregnancy guide for families who are carrying on, which has so far been missing. Expectant parents are empathically supported here to find their way back to the center and their individual path after prenatal diagnosis and to regain a bit of normalcy.
