Description

Amo, a fantasy illustrator from Taiwan, uses an elegant brush style with dark undertones to depict the vast world of gods, demons, and other supernatural beings. Using images to introduce the stories, and allowing the stories to speak for themselves, this book captures the karmic cycle of good and evil in the world. The strange tales of the Six Dynasties are not only an outlet for the rich imagination of ancient people, but also a window for their various hopes and desires.

This book recreates the plots of Six Dynasties fantasy stories through large-format illustrations. The cool, gorgeous, and exotic palette of white, black, and red layers upon layers brings out the fantastical spirit of Six Dynasties weird tales. The combination of images and text brings out the romantic imagination behind the simple, unadorned language. Selections are drawn from thirteen famous works of weird tales, including Arrayed Marvels, In Search of the Supernatural, Tales of the Dark and the Light, Tales of Qi, Records of Anomalies, Records of Manifestations of Buddhism, Stories of Wronged Spirits, Records of Anomalous Events, and Miscellaneous Records of Deities and Spirits. Each story is categorized according to its nature into the three realms of “Gods,” “Ghosts,” and “Humans.” Through illustrations, text, and background context, you will plunge headfirst into a classical, fantasy-filled world of the supernatural.
